FIFTEEN youths gained valuable advice and boosted their basketball game after another AND1 3x3 Streetball Challenge coaching clinic, headed by former national youth coach Sue Teck Hua.

The clinic was the last for this year’s series organised in conjunction with the 3x3 tournament and was held at the Pusat Rekreasi JKKK Batu 11 Cheras covered basketball court in Kuala Lumpur last Friday.

During the two-hour session, Sue and his assistant Wong Chien Teck conducted drills and dispensed tips on the art of basketballing.

Budding basketballers at the clinic were all eyes and ears as the coaches pointed out errors in their techniques and shared the more effective methods.

Sue is a firm believer that fitness and solid techniques make for a good player and commended the youths whom he found to be very athletic.

“Apart from having a sound grasp of dribbling, footwork and jumping techniques, they absorbed the drills very well,” Sue revealed.

“At first I found that they were lacking in their baseline defence, but they picked up the three-person rotation defence I showed them very well.

“That will go a long way to help them prevent their opponents from scoring easy points,” he added.

Participants who attended were drilled by pairs and in trios, giving them a chance to perfect their moves before the final leg of the upcoming AND1 3x3 StreetballChallenge.

The final leg of the AND1 3x3 Streetball Challenge will take place at Berjaya Times Square this Sunday with 220 teams fighting it out for cash prizes and merchandise.

Participants at this year’s AND1 3x3 Streetball Challenge can also take part in the Slam Dunk and Best Shooter contest that will be held throughout the day and stand a chance to win a trophy and hampers.

The “In Search of Streetballer” included for the occasion will see the top streetballers from the previous four legs dazzle the crowd with their flashy moves in a grand final.

The winner of the category will stand a chance to be an ambassador for the AND1 3x3 Streetball Challenge in a contract worth RM3,000.

The AND1 Streetball Challenge is an event sanctioned by the Malaysian Basketball Association.

StarMetro is the official media partner of the tournament, Milo the official beverage sponsor, One FM the official radio and Spalding as the official ball partner.
