An exciting weekend at AND1 basketball

MALACCA: Sam Tiong Kong Club (STKC) turned out to be the biggest money winner pocketing RM3,300 in prize money at the one-day AND1 Streetball 3-on-3 Basketball Challenge.

The event which was held at the Makhota Parade shopping mall open air car park saw a record 153 teams competing in four categories. When it was last held in 2012, a total of 92 teams competed in the tournament.

Organised by the World of Sports (M) Sdn Bhd, the event is back on the local sports calendar after a two-year lapse with Milo as the official beverage sponsor, StarMetrothe official media sponsor, One FM as the radio broadcaster and Spalding as the official ball supplier.

Competing in the under-13, 15 and 18 boys category and the under-21 men’s category, STKC made it a clean sweep of the top three spots in the under-18 category, Finished first and third place in the under-21 category and third place in the under-13 category.



A total of RM7,200 in prize money for all categories was on offer as well as other prizes which include hampers, health products, sports apparel merchandise and goodie bags.

In the boys under-13 category, Warriors took the honours edging Hotel 906 (E) 7-6 to collect RM900. STKC (A) took third spot completing a 5-1 win over Secret Angles to earn RM300 in prize money.

Catholic High School (A) emerged as under-15 boys category champions notching a slim 3-2 win over Famosa Lion Dance (A) to pick up RM900. In the match to decide third place, Famosa Lion Dance (B) beat Selandar 8-5 in the play-off to win RM300.

While in the under-18 boys category, STKC (A) edged their B outfit 6-4 to emerge as champions and pocket RM900. While in the match to decide third place, STKC (D) won a hard fought 2-1 win over Hip and Hoop to claim RM300 to make it a most memorable 1-2-3 finish.

In the under-21 men’s category, 16 teams were in action, STKC (A) scooped up the RM900 cash prize with a comfortable 6-3 win over Kelab Just Do It. STKC (D) won 8-5 over it’s E Team counterparts for third place and pocket RM300.

The top three finishers from each age group category will move to the grand finals slated for November 23 at Berjaya Times Square, Kuala Lumpur.
