JOHOR BARU: Two brothers proved that size does not matter after they outshined more than 50 other participants who were much bigger, taller, and older than them during the AND1 basketball clinic here.

Darren Son Chung, 12, and his little brother Jack, 11, have been in love with the game since they were toddlers.

In fact, almost everyday both of them would play basketball with their friends or have a friendly sibling one-on-one between them.

Darren said that unlike other children their age, both of them constantly watched professional basketball matches in particular National Basketball Association (NBA) games on television rather than cartoons.

“We do not have any preferred teams or players but we just like basketball and just like any team sports it encourages teamwork than individual skills,” he said after the clinic held at Skudai here.
Meanwhile, Jack believes the clinic would help him develop his skills to become a much better player in the future.

He said that despite other participants being bigger in terms of size, it does not scare him at all.

“My big brother is with me and he always gives me words of encouragement which helps to calm my nerves,” he said adding that he learnt a lot during the two-hour clinic including dribbling, shooting and defensive work.

Meanwhile, Skudai Basketball Club secretary Wong Seaw Theng said the AND1 basketball clinic had always been well received by young basketball enthusiasts within the last few years.

He added that the clinic which had professional trainers, help participants to sharpen their skills and become better players.

“AND1 has done a lot to help nurture young basketball players here either with the clinics or its more popular streetball competition,” he said.

The first leg of the AND1 3x3 Streetball Challenge is set to take place on June 28 at Sutera Mall here with spots for 300 teams fighting for cash prizes along with exclusive merchandise from Milo and AND1.

Teams that register before June 7 will receive a Chicago Bulls limited edition balls with only 60 made available.

There will be several highlights, including a search for the top three streetballers, the best shooter, a slam dunk competition as well as lucky draws.
